The Midwest Film Festival continues to shine a spotlight on the remarkable talent, creativity, and storytelling emerging from Chicago and throughout the Midwest. At its 21st Annual Midwest Film Festival, filmmakers, actors, artists, and industry professionals gathered to celebrate independent cinema while recognizing the individuals helping to put Midwest talent on the national entertainment map.

Among the notable talent connected to the festival were Hannaha Hall, known for her acclaimed role as Tiffany on Showtime’s The Chi, and Joe Miñoso, widely recognized for his role as Joe Cruz on NBC’s Chicago Fire. Both actors participated in Midwest Film Festival programming, including the festival’s “Heartland to Hollywood” programming strands and Best of the Midwest Awards events in Chicago.

The appearances underscored one of the festival’s central themes: demonstrating how talent developed in the Midwest can move from independent productions and local creative communities to major television networks and nationally recognized productions.
The Midwest Film Festival has built a reputation for creating opportunities for filmmakers and performers while giving audiences an opportunity to experience stories created by and about people from the region.

The festival’s “Heartland to Hollywood” programming highlights that connection between Midwest-based artists and the larger entertainment industry. Chicago has long been home to a thriving theater, film, and television community, and productions such as The Chi and Chicago Fire have helped showcase the city’s talent, neighborhoods, and creative energy to audiences around the country.
Hannaha Hall represents the new generation of Chicago talent making an impact on television. Her work on The Chi has helped establish her as a recognizable performer while reflecting the depth of talent coming out of Chicago’s artistic community.

Joe Miñoso, meanwhile, has become a familiar face to television audiences through Chicago Fire, a series deeply connected to the city in which it is filmed. His participation in Midwest Film Festival activities further emphasized the festival’s mission of connecting established television performers with the independent filmmakers, emerging artists, and storytellers who make up the Midwest’s creative ecosystem.

The festival’s Best of the Midwest Awards provided another opportunity to celebrate the region’s creative accomplishments. Talented artists, filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals came together to recognize the quality and diversity of work being produced throughout the Midwest.

The awards and festival programming serve as a reminder that compelling filmmaking does not only come from Hollywood or New York. Chicago and the broader Midwest continue to produce writers, directors, actors, cinematographers, producers, and other creative professionals whose work deserves a national audience.

At the heart of the festival is the belief that independent filmmaking is an important part of developing the next generation of entertainment professionals.

Helping guide the Midwest Film Festival is NK Guiterrez, a versatile actor, filmmaker, humanitarian, and executive director of the organization.

Guiterrez’s own experience across theater, television, and independent film gives her a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing creative professionals. Her television credits include recurring roles in productions such as Showtime’s The Chi and NBC’s Chicago Fire.

Her work with the Midwest Film Festival reflects a commitment to creating opportunities for artists while strengthening the region’s film community. Through festival programming, screenings, awards, networking, and industry engagement, the organization continues to provide a space where emerging filmmakers and established professionals can meet, collaborate, and celebrate the art of storytelling.

Actors Federal Credit Union was proud to be represented at the 21st Annual Midwest Film Festival as the organization supported an event dedicated to filmmakers, actors, and creative professionals.
