Aaron Robinson and Kankakee County Museum Hosted “Voices of the Community: A Newspaper Release Celebration”
Community members, leaders, and supporters gathered for a special celebration highlighting the power of community storytelling and local journalism. Publisher Aaron Robinson, in partnership with the Kankakee County Museum, hosted “Voices of the Community: A Newspaper Release Celebration” on Saturday, April 11 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the museum, located at 801 S. 8th Ave, Kankakee, IL. The event was free and open to the public.
The celebration marked the official release of InSight News Reader, a publication designed to inform, uplift, and amplify voices throughout the community. Guests enjoyed speakers, music, entertainment, refreshments, raffles, and prizes in a welcoming and engaging community atmosphere.
InSight News Reader proved to be more than a newspaper publication. It served as a trusted voice for the community, sharing stories that deserve to be heard while addressing important issues and needs affecting local residents. The publication also functioned as a dynamic platform for businesses to increase their visibility and connect meaningfully with the communities they serve.
Featured on the cover of InSight News Reader were Tocarra Eldridge-Robinson, Executive Director of Still I Rise, and Teresa Jones, CEO of Fierce Financial Planning Services; both of whom were present for the special occasion. Eldridge-Robinson was recognized for her leadership on the frontlines of the recent tornado devastation in Aroma Park and Kankakee efforts that were highlighted by major news outlets including ABC, Fox 32, and CBS.
She spearheaded multiple relief initiatives, distributing essential and household items to families impacted by the storm. Beyond disaster response, she has empowered thousands of youth and consistently served the homeless through outreach, food, and clothing programs.
Together, Eldridge-Robinson and Jones have also played a vital role in their annual Back-to-School initiative. Now in its 9th year, the event has provided nearly 1,000 students with backpacks filled with essential school supplies, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to uplifting and investing in the community.

Publisher Aaron Robinson, founder of Consciousness Magazine, made history as the first African American to sustain a magazine publication for over 20 years in Kankakee County, an achievement later recognized with its induction into the Kankakee County Museum. A bestselling author and philanthropist, Robinson is the president of Robinson Publishing LLC, co-founder of the nonprofit Still I Rise, and owner of They Authentic Records LLC.
The event featured remarks from several community leaders including activist Travis Miller, Dr. Genevra Walters (Interim Superintendent of Pembroke School District #259), and Aaron Robinson. The program also included a benediction by Rickey Tucker and was hosted by event MC Josephine Robinson.
Music was provided by DJ Broke Dusty, with a featured performance by Aiyana Lafi, the youngest NAACP member in Kankakee County.
