Recall Alert: DuraTrac Gas Connectors Pose Fire Risk for Kankakee Residents
Residents in Kankakee are being urged to check their homes and appliances following a nationwide recall of DuraTrac stainless steel gas connectors, products now linked to a potentially dangerous fire hazard.
The recall, issued on March 26, 2026, affects nearly 200,000 units sold across the United States, including through major hardware retailers. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the connectors contain a manufacturing defect that can lead to gas leaks, significantly increasing the risk of fire.
Gas connectors are commonly used to link appliances such as stoves, dryers, and water heaters to a home’s gas supply. When functioning properly, they safely transport gas. However, the recalled DuraTrac connectors may fail at the connection point, allowing gas to escape.
Even a small leak can lead to dangerous consequences. Natural gas buildup inside a home can ignite with a simple spark, turning an everyday appliance into a serious safety threat. Officials warn that this defect “could cause a gas leak, posing a fire hazard to consumers.”
The recall applies to DuraTrac stainless steel gas connectors sold between May and November 2025. Consumers should look for:
- A yellow label marked “DuraTrac” and “Made in Thailand”
- Flare nuts engraved with CSA file number 259973
- Date codes: 24D, 25A, 25B, or 25C
These products were sold at hardware stores, including major chains like Ace Hardware, often priced around $20.
If you believe you have one of the recalled connectors:
- Stop using it immediately
- Avoid using any connected gas appliance until it is inspected
- Contact DuraTrac for a full refund
- Consider having a licensed professional safely remove and replace the connector
Safety experts emphasize that gas-related issues should never be handled casually. If you smell gas, leave the area immediately and contact emergency services.
